Interior Design: Spartanburg Style

Spartanburg, South Carolina is one of those rare Southern gems of a town that has grown in recent years but still maintains its charm and affordability.

We have many interior design clients in Spartanburg (or Sparkle City, as some of the locals refer to it) and we have a few go-to moves to restore and preserve fun characteristics of the homes while bringing it up to modern times.

Respect the mudroom

One wonderful aspect to living in Spartanburg, and certainly something that interior design has to incorporate, is the ample outdoor space. Most of the larger homes in older neighborhoods boast huge front and backyards with mature trees. This means lots of space for kiddos and dogs to run, but it also means tracking in some dirt!

In the mudroom, we love to keep it easy-to-clean and functional. We incorporate cabinets to ensure any unsightly items can be tucked away neatly, and tiled floor to make sure upkeep is Swiffer simple.

Don’t erase quirks

One of the most fantastic things to living in a home that is not new construction is remnants of a past time. It could be curved arch doorways, columns on the front porch, dental crown molding, or ornate doorknobs. We are not in the business of tearing down these amazing qualities. Instead, we will update or enhance these features as needed and incorporate modern touches to bring it up to date.

Create great entertaining spaces

As with most places in the South, interior design centers around entertaining. From large kitchen islands built for potlucks, to dining rooms that go out to a screened-in porch to invite the outside in, entertaining is a way of showing love in Spartanburg. We look for the place where your Christmas tree will go every year, we plan how many steps you need to go from taking the turkey from the oven to your kitchen island. We know you’ll need extra space to store your table’s extra leaves and your grandmother’s china. That’s what makes a house a home!

Ramp up the curb appeal

Since many homes in Spartanburg boast spacious front yards, curb appeal is key. When we do restorations or renovations in the area, we want to keep the outdoor colors muted and modern, adding a pop with landscaping or fun accents like rocking chairs, a porch swing, or just beautiful outdoor furniture to soak up the afternoon sun.
